This take on sweet potato chips is simple, healthy and has a slight kick. They are always a hit at gatherings when my roommate and I have friends over. The chili powder is an unexpected addition, but is something that makes guests wonder just what that kick is.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Slice the sweet potato as thin as possible, approximately 1/8-inch.
Step 3: Lay slices in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Step 4: Drizzle with about 1 tablespoon of olive oil (or enough to coat potatoes) and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt, 1/4 teaspoon of freshly cracked black pepper and 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder for an unexpected kick.
Step 6: Place potatoes in the oven and cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.
Step 8: Once chips are cooked through, turn the oven on broil and broil potatoes for approximately 3 minutes, or until chips are crisp and golden.
(Be sure to keep an eye on the potatoes while the oven is on broil. They can burn easily because of the natural sugars in the potatoes.)
